Karl D. Brendle

November 2, 1954 — December 24, 2014

Mr. Karl Brendle, age 60, passed away on December 24, 2014 at the Laurel Regional Hospital in Laurel, MD.  He was a native of the Palmyra/Hershey area in Pennsylvania.

Karl is survived by his sister, Joyce Brendle, wife of Dahl Krow, also from the Palmyra/Hershey area in Pennsylvania.

Karl earned his master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from the College of Architecture at Clemson University.  During the summer months he also studied abroad in Genoa, Italy and Cambridge University in England.  His passion for urban development and revitalization led him to pursue his interests in both the private and public sectors.  Most noteworthy were his years of service at the Laurel City Government Center.  Not only did he develop an excellent reputation for his knowledge in land-use planning, development and revitalization, he established a team rapport with those involved in each project.  Karl was able to see final completion of his latest project, Laurel’s Towne Center.  While serving on a Maryland State Commission Committee , he staunchly  supported crucial inter-governmental master planning and coordinating with surrounding jurisdictions within the Baltimore/Washington corridor.

Karl was a member of the American Institute of Planners, American Society of Planning Officials and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 beginning at 1 pm, at Partnerships Hall, 811 5th Street, Laurel, Maryland 20707.
