Kathryn Jane (Fowler) Mosimann

January 15, 1950 — October 2, 2021

Harvest, AL

Kathryn Jane “Kathie” (Fowler) Mosimann, age 71, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, AL.

Our beloved sister Kathie is survived by her husband Michael, sisters Debbie Kotowicz (Don), Mary Beth Clark (Mel); brothers Jeffrey Fowler (Lou Anne), David Fowler (Donna), Stephen Fowler, and Daniel Fowler; mother Anastasia “Ann” Fowler; and an extended family of aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by our brother Thomas Manning Fowler and father Ray Fowler.

The oldest of the eight children, Kathie was born at Sibley Hospital in Northeast DC. She grew up with us on Standish Drive in Landover Hills, MD, and graduated from Bladensburg High School in 1968.

Kathie met her future husband Mike in November 1970 in a bank where he worked as a teller. After noticing and admiring her during previous visits; Mike asked her out, she accepted, and the two became inseparable until Mike enlisted in the Army and was sent to Vietnam.  Happily, just a week after his return in April 1972, they got engaged, and were married on June 2, 1973, in the church where our parents faithfully brought us every Sunday for decades: Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Landover Hills, MD. Fittingly, Kathie’s funeral will also be held at Saint Mary’s.

For as long as we can remember, Kathie was drawn to the sick and injured. As children, our “Big Sister” tended to our fevers, sprains, burns, and cuts with compassion and care. She graduated from the Prince William County (VA) School of Practical Nursing in 2000, and practiced as an LPN for 10 years before deciding to study for her RN in Huntsville, Alabama.  Unfortunately, a heart attack derailed her plans just as Kathie had competed the pre-admission requirements and was about to apply for admission to the nursing program at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Our sister had many interests outside of her career. For many years, Kathie enjoyed white water canoeing with Mike, where she demonstrated remarkable skill and strength. Together, they paddled a 16-foot open canoe in places that many others would not even attempt. More recently, she enjoyed playing Bunco, a dice game sponsored by the Knights of Columbus in Huntsville, where Mike was – and still is - an active member. Occasionally, she and Mike attended performances by the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. After taking an exercise class at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, she began regularly attending their Sunday service held by pastor David Tubbs.

We are saddened by our loss, but take comfort knowing that she lived a good life and helped so many others. Goodbye Big Sister and thank you for taking such good care of us. If angels ever get sick or hurt, we know you’ll be there to help.

Visitation will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel on Thursday, October 14 from 4 to 8 PM, a Prayer Service will be held at 7 PM.

Further visitation will be held at St. Mary's Church, 7301 Annapolis Road, Landover Hills, MD on Friday, October 15 from 10:30 to 11:30 AM when the Funeral Mass will be celebrated.
