Kelly Ann (Hynson) Adams, 65, of Silver Spring, MD passed away on March 24, 2013 at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia, MD. Kelly grew up in Simpsonville in Howard County, which was then just a dot on a little crossroad at Rtes. 32 and 29. As the community grew and developed into Columbia, Kelly graduated from Glenelg High School and attended a year at the University of Maryland. Her skills and preferences leaned toward business school. She left the university use her creative administrative skills with the American Red Cross, ORI, and (then) Swales Aerospace, Inc. Kelly was the administrator's administrator.
Kelly teased and prided herself with having been well-prepared to handle detail and organization by her father, Tom Hynson (deceased 1992). Some jobs were just made for Kelly, and she was honored to lead the planning for Mt. Zion United Methodist Church's week-long 150th Anniversary Celebration in July 2012, which was received and appreciated with superlative acclaim.
Kelly Adams was not just a volunteer worker there, but a beloved member of her church. Her faith formed strongly through worship and participation in the Pioneer's Sunday school class. Originally just a regular attender and faithful listener, Kelly was proud to report the day she actually asked her first question in the class! That listening was transformative, (along with regular questions posed to her sister as "Bible Hotline"!) Through Mt. Zion's ministry she grew to have a strong and victorious faith, which served her well when her life was cut short by complications from multiple myeloma and amyloidosis. Her spirit was at peace with the decision to discontinue treatment, and she entrusted herself to God with great grace.
In addition to her activities as librarian and historian at Mt. Zion, Kelly was the primary caregiver for twenty years to her mother, Helen (deceased 2012), and worked diligently to provide comfort, security, and stability for her. When she could, Kelly enjoyed walking in the park, vintage TV, and game night with "the girls". Her love of games was cultivated as a child and nourished by the occasional poker night with Dad and his friends.
Never one to desire the spotlight, Kelly was a tireless worker behind the scenes. She will be remembered for so many acts of kindness, great and small, from traveling to Pennsylvania for over six months to help her brother through his health crisis to making Snickerdoodles for the workers in the park near her home.
Kelly is survived by her husband, Joe Alexander; a sister, Diana Hynson and partner Carmen gaud; a brother, Ben Hynson and wife Lori; her four-legged "daughter", Towsette; several cousins, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends.
Kelly Adams possessed a true treasure in her good-heartedness. Her generosity and commitment to excellence witness to an unassuming and beautiful spirit. Kelly was a beloved wife, sister, and friend; and she will be greatly missed.
