Lee Dorset (Leo) Miller Jr., age 83, of Glenelg, MD passed Wednesday May 7th 2014 at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
Lee was born on November 13, 1930 in Laurel, MD to the late Lee D. Miller and the late Jessie (nee Landon) Miller. Lee was raised in Laurel and graduated from Laurel High School. During his school age days, Leo worked for the Gude Brothers helping tend to their greenhouses. After high school, Lee enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the 805th Air Police Squadron, spending the majority of his enlistment in England. After the Air Force, Leo began working in an automobile body shop where he honed his love of shaping and bending metal. When the body shop closed its doors Lee found work at CECO corporation doing technical drawings while designing roadways and bridges. He worked at several architectural and engineering firms in the DC area, ultimately retiring in the early 1990's from KCE Structural Engineers.
Leo was a self-taught artist who was proficient in multiple mediums. After retirement Leo enjoyed spending time honing his skills as an artist. Many mediums were of interest to him; to include drawing, painting, and building scale models of the Pride of Baltimore. Lee enjoyed making breads and pizza and was an avid gardener. Mr. Miller married the late Margaret (nee Henson) Miller on March 24, 1956 and together they raised their 8 children; Linda, Janice, Marjorie, Michael, Keith, Bruce, Kenneth and Paul. Lee was the brother of Andrew, Joan (Sissy) and Jerry. He was predeceased by his sister Mary and a brother Ernie. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and from 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, PA, 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, Maryland 20707 where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Laurel, Maryland.
