Lester Young

Lester Young Sr. went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer on September 13, 2013, in Laurel, Md. He was born on August 13, 1938 in Lowmansville, Ky. to Elbert and Oakie Young. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Lee Ballenger-Young; his sister Janet Young-Tucker; and his five children, Tammie, Lester Jr., Mitchell, Michele, Stephen and their spouses. He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was the owner of Young's trucking for 30 years, hauling for the Washington Post. Lester went into the Army in 1958. After training and Boot Camp, he was stationed at Arlington Hall in Virginia. There he met and fell in love with his wife, Joy, at Topps drive-in. They were married for 54 years. Lester worked various jobs supporting his family, until he was hired by the Washington Coca-Cola Company. He worked at Coca-Cola for 15 years before starting his Young's Trucking Company. Lester was a deacon in his church. He was very active in the church and served the Lord in every aspect of his life. He was a soul winner and loved to tell others about God and how they could have eternal life with him.
The family will receive friends at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, Md. 20707 on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A celebration of Lester' life will be held at Maryland City Baptist Church, 326 Brockbridge Road, Laurel, Md. on Tuesday 11 AM with Pastor Viswasam Officiating. Interment Hillsboro Cemetery.
