Linda Maria Gross of Mitchellville, Maryland went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2026. She was 76 years old. Born on August 24, 1949, to the late Julian Holmes and Willie Mae Crenshaw, Linda grew up in the Washington DC area and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1979. She then went on to be a beloved High School Teacher until her retirement in 2009.
In addition to her love of teaching, Linda also enjoyed Praising the Lord and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden. She liked to garden, birdwatch, and paint; she was also an avid collector of stamps and coins. Most importantly, Linda enjoyed life and finding moments of joy and laughter wherever she could.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her brothers Leroy R. Holmes, Julian C. Holmes, and Robert W. Holmes. She is survived by her dear sons, Derek Jay Gross (Tonya), of Baltimore, Maryland and Michael David Cross of Mitchellville, Maryland; beloved grandchildren Derek Jabez Gross and Gabriella J’nae Cross; Brothers Francis W. Holmes and Calvin C. Crenshaw. Additionally, she leaves behind many cherished family members and friends.
Family and friends may gather to remember the life of Linda on Friday, April 17 for a visitation at 10:00am at First Baptist Church of Glenarden (3600 Brightseat Rd, Landover, MD 20785) followed by a funeral service at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery (3001 Spencerville Rd, Burtonsville, MD 20866). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; information to do so is posted below.
