Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, cousin and friend passed away peacefully at home, in Laurel, MD on the evening of June 15, 2022, after a long battle with cancer. Linda was a cheerleader for all her loved ones, celebrating their successes and comforting them on harder days. She found great strength in her faith that sustained her through challenging times.
Linda Diane McKenna, loving wife, for 53 years, of Patrick McKenna was the beloved daughter of the late Lillian Estelle and James Lewis Woodard, Sr. Linda is survived by her children Joseph McKenna and Kristine McKenna; grandchildren Jenifer and Colin McKenna: great-grandchildren Oliver and Tadgh. She is also survived by her brother James Woodard, Jr. and her sister Barbara (Woodard) Roberts. In addition to her parents Linda was predeceased by her brother David Woodard.
Linda loved her family – both by blood and chosen – and was happiest at gatherings where stories could be told, laughter shared and her famous chocolate chip cookies could be eaten. Dance floors at weddings will seem a little emptier without her famous moves and whoops of joy. Linda loved to read and inspired the children in her life to find fun and knowledge in books. She had an exceptional creative energy which she used to make epic gardens, ceramics, Halloween costumes, clothing and gifts for others. Linda also had a knack for finding the perfect card for any occasion.
Always up for an adventure, she traveled whenever she had the opportunity – especially if it meant seeing family along the way. Linda had a twinkle in her eye every time she saw a visited place featured on television or in print, stating “I’ve been there!” with glee. She was passionate about wildlife conservation so that future generations could enjoy all the beauty that nature holds. A consummate “bird nerd”, she was nicknamed “Eagle Eyes” by her family for her uncanny ability to spot them.
To celebrate her spirit, kindness and zest, we will gather for a Celebration of Life on September 10th, from 1pm to 4 pm, at the American Legion Disney-Bell Post 66 located at 9605 Laurel Bowie Road, Bowie, MD 20720.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity, as Linda loved contributing to many causes to make the world a better place.
