Lisann A. Carriker, loving wife
Lisann A. Carriker, 50, died May 31 at home. Cause of death is unknown at this time; Lisann was recovering from a stroke she experienced in December 2011.
Lisann Alicia Carriker was born in Huntington, NY on March 14, 1963 to Salvatore and Vivien Brancato. She received a BS degree in Secondary Education in 1985 from Virginia Tech and a MS in Human Resource Development in 1999 from Towson University.
Lisann was the science coordinator/teacher at St Marks School from 1989-1994. She enjoyed children and had a passion for teaching them the principles of science. After teaching, Lisann worked as a quality assurance technician for American Stone Mix, Inc. from 1994-2001. There, she performed quality assurance testing of manufactured building supply materials, was responsible for Material Data Safety Sheet generation for new products & updates, and was a company representative during field investigations and trials. In the next "phase" of Lisann's career, she applied her HR degree as a human resource generalist at the ASRC Federal Holding Company from 2001-2004. Her duties involved 'Service Contract Act' education/administration; recruiting support; position description development and maintenance; policy/procedures development; compensation plan administration; HRIS Data management/conversion (Deltek); benefits; and reception. After being a trainer for Tower Federal Credit Union (2004-2005) and an employee relations coordinator for APWU Health Plan (2005-2006), Lisann took a break from work to be with family and enjoy gardening and home improvement projects. Lisann decided to get back into the job market in early 2011 and took an administrative assistant position at Kernan Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation in their Case Management and then Quality Departments. Lisann enjoyed the work she did there and the people she worked with. It was comforting that when she suffered her stroke in December 2011, she started her rehabilitation at Kernan where they treated her like family.
Lisann and her husband, Roger got married on August 6, 1988 in Long Island, New York and moved to Glen Burnie, Maryland. They resided in Glen Burnie until moving to and buying their home in Jessup Maryland in 1989 where they still reside today.
Lisann was an avid gardener and enjoyed getting involved in home improvement projects. There wasn't any project that she hesitated in undertaking and always did a wonderful job. Her creation of what others in the neighborhood have called a "Zen Garden" in the back yard provides a place for relaxing evenings and the year-long enjoyment of the colorful display of the various flowers, plantings, and greeenscape she created over the years. Lisann was a music lover and enjoyed playing any song that "got to her" at high volumes, much to the attention of Roger and anyone nearby. She enjoyed going to thrift shops, yard sales, and estate sales in search of "hidden treasures" and was a proficient computer and internet user especially on sites such as Craigslist and Free-cycle. Several of the furnishings and accessories through their house in Jessup were found on Craigslist or at yard sales. She loved animals and owned numerous dogs, birds, and cats throughout her life. She loved all of her extended family. She especially cherished all the nieces and nephews she had from both sides of the family. Lisann was proud to be considered an amazing aunt by children of both family and friends. She was always direct and honest with everyone she encountered, whether it was family, friends, or colleagues.
Lisann is survived by her husband of 24 years, her brother Lance (Jeanette) Brancato of Newburgh, NY,
sister Lauren Brancato of Long Island NY, brother Lee Brancato of Garner, NC, and brother Laine (Valerie) Brancato of Long Island, NY; she is also survived by her mother-in-law, three brothers-in-law, two additional sisters-in-laws from Roger's side of the family, and 17 nieces and nephews.
