Lorraine Carr Lilley, 90, formerly of Savage, died on June 25th at her residence at
Harmony Hall in Columbia. She was born November 8, 1923 in Baltimore, the
daughter of L. Edwin and Ina Bird Carr. Mrs. Lilley was a life-long resident of
Howard County, having lived most of her life in or near Savage. She graduated
from Elkridge High School and later attended Strayer Business School in
Baltimore. During WWII she worked at the Maryland Biscuit Company in
Baltimore. For a number of years Mrs. Lilley was the Principal's Secretary at
Savage Elementary School and later worked as a U.S. Postal employee in
Simpsonville. She married Chester Lee Lilley, also of Savage, on December 1,
1945. The couple built their first home on Savage-Guilford Road where their two
daughters grew up.
Mr. & Mrs. Lilley enjoyed camping and were members of the Holiday Rambler
Travel Club for many years. Mrs. Lilley especially enjoyed gardening and always
had fresh flowers on her table. At the time of her death, Mrs. Lilley was a member
of the Alberta Gary Memorial United Methodist Church, the church she had
attended since she was a young child. She was always busy with her many
interests, including sewing, gardening, wood carving, needlework, quilling,
painting, and quilting. Mrs. Lilley is remembered by her daughters as a quiet,
thoughtful, compassionate, caring, generous and loving mother who always put
others before herself.
Mrs. Lilley is survived by her two daughters, Linda Martin of Flower Mound,
Texas, and Joy Davis of Jessup; grandchildren Lauren Stange, Bill Reidler, Matthew
Hudson, and Heather Hudson; and great-grandchildren Trevor and Reagan Stange
and Kai and Demi Hudson.
A memorial service for Mrs. Lilley will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 6th at
Alberta Memorial United Methodist Church.
