Lt. Col. Sterling M. Lewis, Jr. (U.S. Army, Ret.)

Sterling Lewis passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at his residence in Laurel, MD.  Sterling was born on August 3, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Sterling M. Lewis and the late Louise Aston Lewis.  He attained the merit of Eagle Scout as a youth.  Growing up in Western Pennsylvania he became a life long Pittsburgh Steelers fan.  He was also involved in Indian lure with his father.

He attended  Aliquippa High School and  then went on to attend The Virginia Military Institute, graduateing in 1960.  Upon graduating, he entered the United States Army.  Sterling retired from the United States Army as a Lt. Col. after spending 28 years in service to his country.   Sterling served two tours in Viet Nam as a member of the 101st Airborne Rangers.

Sterling has been a resident of Laurel, Maryland since 1984 when his military duty brought him to Ft. Meade.  Prior to living in Laurel, Sterling had been stationed all over the United States and several duty stations around the world including Germany and Panama.

Sterling is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sandra Lewis, his loving children; Margaret Lewis Hufschmid, Sterling M. Lewis, III, Peggy Russell and her fiancé Bruce Honeycutt, Sandra Ann Lewis and Melody Elanie Richardson and her husband Aaron.  He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren; Courtney and Jake Russell, Michelle and Michael Hufschmid, Michelle, Daniel, Sterling, IV and Jermey Lewis.  Sterling also is survived by his sister, Beverly Louise Jenkins and her husband Doak.  Sterling is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707.  A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 beginning at 1:00 PM.  Interment with Military Honors will be held at the MD Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville., MD following the funeral service at the funeral home.
