On Saturday September 22, 2012, Mae Dressel, formerly of Bethesda and Mt. Rainier, died of natural causes at her home in the Riderwood Village Retirement Community in Silver Spring, MD.
She was born January 13, 1921, the daughter of Irving Woodbury Beall and Margaret Elizabeth Willett in Ritchie, MD and was predeceased by her four siblings Joseph "Joe" Beall, Henrietta Beall Light, Woodbury "Bill" Beall and Margaret Beall Mace. She graduated from Maryland Park High School and the Washington School for Secretaries.
Mae, a career civil servant in the Department of the Navy, retired in 1982 after serving as the long-time secretary to the Commanding Officer of the National Naval Medical Center. She was the wife of 58 years to John T. Dressel, who died in 2002. She was a devoted member of the Bethesda United Methodist Church, an avid bridge player, and traveled the world extensively with her husband. They greatly enjoyed plays, concerts, operas and travel lectures.
She is survived by two sons, David M. Dressel and wife Cindy of Keedysville, MD and J. Douglas Dressel and wife Sheri of Gaithersburg, MD, and three grandchildren: Danni, Tyler, and Ted.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 25, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707 and again on Wednesday, September 26 at the First Baptist Church of Laurel, 15000 1st Baptist Lane, Laurel, MD 20707 starting at 10 AM until the time of service beginning at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Berea College, Berea, KY and the Riderwood Village Benevolent Fund, Silver Spring, MD.
