On December 4, 2015 Margaret Furda passed away suddenly at the age 96. She was a resident of Laurel for nearly 60 years. Born in Windber, Pa. the oldest of 7 children of Slovak heritage and proud of it. After high school she met and married in 1940 her husband, the late Jon Furda. Together courtesy of the US Army they traveled Europe extensively for many of the early years of their marriage. Her travels left her with wonderful memories of places that she had seen and lived and many treasured recipes that she prepared for her family daily. In addition to her perfection and enjoyment of being in her kitchen, cooking and baking. She loved her flowers of all kinds, sewing and dancing the polka. She loved the church, loved to shop, loved to eat good food and always look her best. The best Mother a child could dream of having; that was her. She lived for the togetherness of her loving family. She is survived by her three loving daughters and their spouses- Margaret Chenault (BernieWeaver), Mary Lou Kortum (Michael Kortum) and Susan Furda (John Anastasiou). Also surviving are her grandsons John K. Chenault (Annette) and Matthew G. Kortum. Three great grandsons James, John and Justin Chenault. Two great- great grandsons Edan and TJ Chenault. Her beloved husband John Furda and her loving son John Robert Furda preceded her in death as well as her 5 brothers and 1 sister. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Donaldson Funeral Home, PA. 313 Talbott Avenue Laurel, Maryland 20707 on Tuesday, December 15 from 2-4 & 7-9. with a Parastas Service at 7:30 pm. Office of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 9:30 am at Saint Gregory on Nyssa Byzantine Catholic Church 12420 Old Gunpowder Road Spur Beltsville, Maryland 20705. Interment to follow at the Maryland Veteran Cemetery at Crownsville.
