Marguerite (Maggie) Grace Black, age 68, passed away in Burtonsville, Maryland on May 1, 2025.
Maggie was born June 22, 1957 in New York, New York, daughter of Horton David Black and Yolande Auguste Black. She graduated top of her class at Hunter College in New York City in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and went on to work for an investor relations firm in the the city for more than a decade. She lived in Brooklyn, liked photography and travel, with notable trips to New Mexico, Maine, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe. She lived in Florida for a few years and later relocated to the Washington DC metro area in 2006 to be near family. Maggie worked as a cashier in Laurel until health complications arose and eventually shortened her life. She transitioned quietly and peacefully at Autumn Lake rehab and nursing facility in Burtonsville.
Maggie is survived by her older sister, Ms. Monique Jeanty; her younger sister, Ms. Yolande Black; her nieces Ms. Cheryl Welbeck and Dr. Michelle Stovall; grandnieces Elizabeth Welbeck (20) and Sophia Owodunni (12), and many dear cousins and relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents Horton (1989) and Yolande (2004) Black and her younger brother David Horton Black (2015).
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Laurel Church of Christ, 7111 Cherry Lane, Laurel, MD 20707.
