Maria Luisa “Lisa” Basileo (1938-2022

Maria Luisa “Lisa” Basileo, 83, transitioned to eternity at the Friendship Arms Senior Apartments in Hyattsville, MD on May 18, 2022.

Maria was born on May 30, 1938 to Antonio Arrighi and Maria Pia Regoli in Arrezo, Italy. Lisa grew up in Italy with her three older brothers: Marcello, Mario, and Sergio.

In 1963, Lisa married Benjamin Basileo in Arezzo, Italy. They moved to the United States and had two sons, Alexander Francis Basileo and Alberto John Basileo. After divorcing in 1980, Lisa became a hostess at the Hot Shoppes Restaurant at the Prince George’s Plaza Mall. Over the years, she learned English and Spanish, explored different parts of the world while traveling, and enjoyed spending time with her two sons.

As she grew older, Lisa moved to the Friendship Arms Senior Apartments where she lived for over 25 years. She loved to sing, dance, and play the piano. Lisa was always full of energy and personality. Almost every day, she would walk to the local mall and spend time with friends and acquaintances. She was very proud of her family (especially her son Alberto) and her strong Italian heritage.When Lisa became ill with Alzheimer’s in 2019, Alberto hired a caretaker (Connie Heiss) and became responsible for her finances and wellbeing.  Lisa remained strong and optimistic despite her health struggles in recent years. She looked forward to weekend visits and outings with her son and close friend, Tiffany Brevard (and her daughter, Ashley Brevard), along with making beautiful memories with other family and friends.

Lisa is preceded in death by both of her parents and three brothers. She is survived by her two beloved sons, Alexander Basileo and Alberto Basileo; biological grandson, Quinton Richmond; and adopted grandsons, Dante Wicker Jr. and Semaje Wicker. Lisa will also be missed by many long-time friends and acquaintances.
