Martha W. Houts

February 26, 1925 — May 17, 2013

Martha Houts, age 88, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on Thursday, May 16, 2013. Martha was born on February 26, 1925 to the late John and the late Anna (nee Petchel) Wargula.

Martha, was a volunteer for Hospice in the 1980's, she would be sent to the patient's homes that no one else would go to. In her special way, she could reach them and she never failed to "win them over".

Martha reached out to so many people in so many ways. If they were hungry, she fed them. If they were sick, she would visit them. When she lived in Bellair Bluffs, there was a couple, where the husband was taking care of an ailing wife. Martha would anonymously place flowers on their doorstep. She took neighbors shopping, bank or to doctor's appointment. If she met someone at the VA, and they did not have a ride home, she would provide that and would make sure she was there for them at their next doctor appointments.

Martha is survived by her six children, Robert Houts, Vicki Nelson, Lynn O'Connor, Kathy Washington, John Houts and Richard Houts; 2 adopted daughters, Karen Thornton and Angela Steffans; sisters Doloris Buddenbrock and Marianne Collosurdo and brother Edward Wargula.

God was the center of her life. Her faith and trust in our Lord never wavered no matter what the circumstance. She loved Jesus with all her heart and that was her real beauty. She was a good role model not just for family but every life that came across her path. With a smile from heaven and a steadfast walk in a crowd everyone loved Martha. That is her real legacy. A child of God. A mother of six, an ambassador for the cause of Christ. At ease soldier! Rest my good and faithful servant...
