Mary Elizabeth Byrd, 66, passed away on April 3, 2014 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She was born on December 14, 1947 to Dorothy Mae Byrd and the late Elder Earl Christian Byrd. She grew up in Glen Burnie, Maryland and attended Andover High School in Linthicum, Maryland and graduated from Wiley Bates High School in 1965 in Annapolis. Mary loved to sing and arrange flowers. She so enjoyed meeting people and witnessing about her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an avid Bible student, evangelist, and participated in prison ministry with New Psalmist Baptist Church. Mary joyfully ministered to people in their final stages of life. She retired in 1995 from the Teleservice Center of the Social Security Administration as a Telephone Claims Technician.
Mary is survived by her devoted daughters Karen D. Chapman and her husband James, and Dana Marie Brown and her husband Marcus; loving siblings Priscilla M. Rust, Nathaniel C. Byrd, and Anne M. Presbury; step-siblings Charlotte, Clarence, LaTonia, Rafe, Zsavita, Zsata, and Antonio; grandchildren Erika, James, Brielle, Jasmine, Johnathan, and Lundyn; and a host of relatives and friends. To Mary's family and friends she was affectionately known as Lizzie and to her grandchildren she was affectionately known as Meme.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10- 11 am at First Baptist Church of Laurel, 15000 First Baptist Church Lane, Laurel, MD 20707 where funeral services will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
