Mary Elizabeth Christianson
November 3, 1959 – June 22, 2025
On the evening of June 22, 2025, Mary “Mary Beth” Elizabeth Christianson of Rockville, Maryland, passed away peacefully in Sandy Spring, Maryland.
Mary Beth was born on November 3, 1959, to Charles Christianson and Mary C. McNiff in New York City, New York. She was the eldest of four siblings.
On June 15, 1993, she welcomed her beloved daughter, Jasmine Marie Vicencio-Adams. She was a devoted mother who taught Jasmine to garden and to love the Lord. In 2023, she became a grandmother to Zipporah Evangeline Vicencio Adams, a moment she described as one of the proudest of her life. In March 2025, she welcomed her grandson, Joseph Angelino Vicencio Adams, whose birth she awaited enthusiastically.
Mary Beth was a lifelong caregiver, dedicating over 40 years to the nursing profession. As a nurse and later a nurse case manager, she advocated fiercely for her patients—especially during her final post at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Washington, D.C. There, she fought tirelessly for veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War to ensure they received the care and dignity they needed and deserved.
Outside of her career, Mary Beth was an artist in every sense. She was an accomplished seamstress, hat maker, dancer, gardener, florist, and photographer. She was known for documenting family reunions, travel adventures, and cherished moments with her grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, passion for genealogy, devotion to the Blessed Mother, and her commitment to bringing family together.
Mary Beth is survived by her daughter, Jasmine Marie Vicencio-Adams, and son-in-law, Sean Adams; her grandchildren, Zipporah Evangeline Vicencio Adams and Joseph Angelino Vicencio Adams; her sisters, Deirdre Christianson-Jakobowski (Alan J. Jakobowski) and Kathleen Christianson; her brother, Charles Christianson (Colette Christianson); and a host of cousins and dear friends.
"She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles L. Christianson and Mary C. McNiff, and her beloved pug, Bertie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary Beth’s honor to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), reflecting her dedication to mental health and her decades of service as a psychiatric nurse. If you are able to join us for her services, we encourage you to wear her favorite color, purple, and a fun hat (i.e. a fascinator, wide brim hats, and the like)."
