Mary E. Dungey

August 15, 1918 — May 6, 2012

Mary E. Dungey passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at home surrounded by her family who loved her deeply. She was born on August 15, 1918 to Ann and John Lazas. In her lifetime she mourned the loss of her husband, Richard Allen Dungey; her daughter, Barbara Dungey Gaetano; her son, Kenneth John Dungey and her grandson, Michael Allen Gaetano. She leaves behind one daughter, Mary E. Borges; one son, Richard A. Dungey; four grandchildren, Cristina, Kenneth, Nash and Mary; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Dean and Jacob; one brother, Donald J. Lazas and many friends and loved ones. She was known as 'Granny' to many people and she spread her hand made knit caps far and wide. She graduated with her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Maryland. She was a beloved elementary school teacher for thirty years. She played bridge, traveled the world, was active in her church and with her many friends but spent the majority of her time enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her family is forever grateful to Dr. Jill Rosenstock,IM/Laurel and her staff for their knowledgeable, extraordinary and compassionate care that allowed her to live as full and long a life as humanly possible.
A mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Community at 12319 New Hampshire Ave Silver Spring, Md 20904 on Friday, May 11 at 11am. A luncheon will follow at Holy Family Seminary at 401 Randolph Rd in Silver Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor 4200 Harewood Rd, NE Washington, DC 20017.
