On May 3, 2016, Mary R. Williams passed away in Silver Spring, Maryland. Beloved daughter of the late Helen and Joseph Kupin of Linthicum, MD she was born on October 29, 1944. She attended Linthicum Elementary, Brooklyn Park High School, and the University of Maryland in College Park receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with a mathematics major in 1966. Mary met her future husband James F. Williams, a graduate student, at the University, two months before her graduation. She was employed by IBM in the Federal Systems Division in Gaithersburg, MD through 1969.
In 1967, Mary married Jim and in 1969, they moved into their home in Beltsville, MD, raising five children there: Michael, Stephen, Daniel, Kenneth and Laura. The boys were active in Boy Scouts of America, Troop 1031 and Mary was a very active den mother from 1977 – 1988. Mary was also involved in a local Girl Scout troop with Laura. Mary devoted her life to caring for and raising kind, thoughtful and generous children. All of the children attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School, High Point High School and University of Maryland in College Park. Her Catholic faith was a central part of her life and she remained a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for more than 35 years. Mary initially showed signs of Alzheimer’s memory loss in 2006, which increasingly affected her mental ability. Jim cared for her at home until she moved to Arden Courts Memory Care Community in Silver Spring, MD.
Mary is survived by her husband Jim of 49 years, their five children and spouses, eight grandchildren, two nieces, one nephew, her sister-in-law Jane Kupin, and her sister JoEllen Marek. She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Kupin and brother-in-law Bill Marek.
Family will receive friends on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 2- 4 PM and 7-9 PM at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbot Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707. Christian Wake Service conducted by Deacon Chris Schwartz of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 8:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2016. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 10 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Beltsville, Maryland.
