Maryanne (Gardzalla) Starzec

Maryanne L Starzec was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away peacefully on December 15th at the age of 82 after a long journey with dementia.

Maryanne was born on May 26, 1941 in Larksville, Pennsylvania. A longtime resident of West Laurel, MD, Maryanne was married to her late husband, John, for more than 60 years and had seven children.

She devoted her life to raising her kids and regularly volunteered at their school fundraisers and activities.  Maryanne, known by many as Grandma, was an avid seamstress and a member of St. Mary of the Mills Parish. She enjoyed traveling to Slovakia and the Caribbean, playing slots at the casino, and spending time with neighbors at the beach in Ocean City.

She is predeceased by her husband, John Joseph Starzec Jr., her son, John Joseph Starzec III, her parents, Patrick and Josephine Gardzalla, her brother, Patrick Gardzalla, and sister, Joan Maher.

Maryanne is survived by her six children, Joann Moe (Brian), Suzann Tom (Barry), Lori Orta, Jay Starzec (Patti), Matthew Starzec (Kelly), and Marci Whalen (Brian); her twelve grandchildren, Alexandra Flowers (Derek), Kersten Doherty (Mark), Ryan Tom, David Orta, Sofia Orta, Lucas Orta, Scott Moe, Brady Starzec, James Starzec, Madeline Starzec, Cooper Whalen, and Dylan Whalen; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Devin Flowers.
