Michael Vernon Downey

Michael “Micky” Vernon Downey, of Laurel, Maryland died on July 21, 2026. He was 70 years old. Born on August 31, 1955, to William and Mable (Christensen) Downey, Micky was a lifelong resident of the state of Maryland and a proud United States Army veteran, faithfully serving his country from 1975 to 1978. Additionally, he was head cook at Doctors Hospital and head chef at Blue Mountain Christian retreat. Micky was also a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, working for over 20 years in nearby Maryland City until his retirement in 2009.

Micky never met a stranger; he was known for his friendly demeanor and that he always had time to talk to anyone, therefore everyone he met became a friend. He also enjoyed cooking for friends and family, hunting, fishing, taking the time and patience needed to tend to his garden, and reading a good book.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Richard Downey and John Downey; and nephew Richard Downey; he is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Geneva Jean Downey; beloved daughter Christi Beall (Charles Beall, Sr.); grandchildren Charles W. Beall, Jr (Tami Beall) and Elizabeth Cloer (Colby Cloer); great-grandchildren Harper Cloer and Vera Beall; brothers William Downey (Carol), Robert Downey, Thomas Downey, Patrick Downey, and sister-in-law Faye Downey, wife of the late John Downey.

Relatives and friends may visit the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD, 20707 on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from 1:00 -5:00pm for a visitation. Military honors and prayers will be given at 3:00pm on this day.
