Milton Steward Cole

August 11, 1920 — April 20, 2015

Milton Steward Cole, a resident of Riderwood Retirement Community in Silver Spring passed away on April 20, 2015 at Holy Cross Hospital.  He was born on August 11, 1920 to the late Walter and Helen Cole in Laurel, MD.  He received a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Maryland in Psychology and Sociology in 1942.  He enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1942 and served as a Chief Petty Officer in charge of personnel classification at Philadelphia and Curtis Bay in Baltimore.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.  He began working as a Bank Personnel Manager and later went to work for Geico Insurance where he retired as V.P. of Personnel in 1978.  He later began working for Outplacement Consultant & Vice President DC Office for Drake Beam Morin until 1985.  He was a member of Personnel Officers Round Table of Washington, Red Cross Board of Directors in Silver Spring, member and VP of Personnel group of the National Association of Independent Insurers and St. Philips Episcopal Church.  He enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake and Severn River, Tennis, Golf, and conducting or singing with a choir.  He supported his wife Jane and the Laurel Historical Society and Laurel Museum.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jane Martin Cole.  He is survived by his daughter Carole R. Mark and her husband Daniel of Wyoming; granddaughter Sarah F. Mark of Wyoming; niece Ann Bosak Thompson of SC and nephew James M. Bosak of NC.
