In Loving Memory of Muriel S. Pierce (née Jones)

December 15, 1930 - May 27, 2024

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Muriel S. Pierce, a cherished matriarch, patriot, and devout Christian, at the age of 93. A native of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Muriel was a beacon of unwavering faith, love, and service throughout her blessed life.

Muriel is survived by her loving daughter, Janice Hatzakos, son-in-law Pete Hatzakos, son Norbert Strub III, goddaughter Mary Cazalas, adored grandchildren, and numerous stepchildren, nieces, nephews, and family members who revered her.

Her illustrious career began in service to our nation at the Pentagon and was later marked by an honorable period of work at The White House. After dedicating time to her family, she continued her distinguished service in Fairfax County and with the Central Intelligence Agency. Her unwavering commitment to country and community remains an inspiration to all.

A woman of diverse interests, Muriel delighted in journeys abroad, cultural arts, the cultivation of her garden, and selfless involvement in charitable works. She carried the vitality of her early athletic endeavors throughout her life with enduring zeal.

Muriel was preceded in death by her esteemed husbands, Henry M. Pierce (d. 1998);  her stepchildren Hannah (Joy) (d. 2023), Elizabeth, Ann, John, and Mary Frances, and Norbert G. Strub, Jr. (d. 2005); her children, Norbert and Janice, and her former companion, Jack Strickland; and his children, Debby and Darrel.

The family cordially invites relatives and friends to join in the memorial services to be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced, where Muriel will be laid to rest with the respect befitting her admirable life. Her courageous spirit, kindness, and dedication to family will forever guide and comfort those who knew her.

May Muriel S. Pierce rest in eternal peace in the loving embrace of our Lord. Through God's grace, may she find everlasting rest. Amen.
