Myrtle Lee Coon, age 84 passed away in Ellicott City, MD on Monday, December 30, 2024.

Born February 16, 1940, in Laurel MD Daughter of Jacob Mills and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Mills.  She lived in Laurel, MD all of her life and recently resided at Lighthouse Senior Living Ellicott City and worked at the John’s Hopkins Applied Physics Lab as Secretary & Administrative Assistant until retiring in May 2002 Myrtle was an active member at many churches over the years including Burtonsville Baptist, Hope Baptist & First Baptist Church of Savage. Also known to many as Mom, Aunt Myrtle, Gram, and Momma Coon, Myrtle’s crochet hobby allowed her to lovingly crafted a multitude of special projects especially known for her annual Christmas angel ornaments gifted to family, friends & strangers.

Myrtle is survived by sons Kelly Coon Jr., wife Gloria Coon and Rodney Coon, wife Selena Coon,  7 grandchildren: Melissa (Coon) McCann, Robert Barry, Andrew Barry, Noah Coon, Dawson Coon, Meleah Coon, Maddux Coon; 3 great grandchildren: Payton McCann, Liam McCann & Elynore Barry.  Also survived by sisters: Betty Louise (Mills) Coon, Nancy Virginia (Mills) Coon, Edith Pauline (Mills) Hauser Sylvious, Carolyn Jean(Mills) Jarels.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Coon Sr.: Half brothers: Charles (Charlie) Mills, Randolph Mills, Henry Harrison Mills, James Franklin Jim (Mills), Giles Delany Mills, Sr., Walter Philip Mills; Half sisters: Virgie Mae (Mills) Dustin, Catherine Virginia (Mills) Becraft, Bessie Regina (Mills) Becraft;  and Sisters Rosemarie (Mills) Leisher, Joan Rebecca Mills and Annie Arlene Mills.

Relatives and friends may visit at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. On Thursday, January 2 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at the chapel at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. On Friday, January 3 at 10am. Interment will be at Emmanuel United Methodist Church Cemetery following the funeral service.
