NANCY CATHERINE HUTCHINSON (JONES)

Nancy Hutchinson died peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 28, 2022, at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C., the same hospital where she was born 73 years ago.  This was no stationary life however, for Nancy travelled far, befriended all, carried the burden of many, and left this world a little brighter than she found it.

Faith, family, and friendship were central to Nancy’s being.  She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent her life nourishing the spiritual and physical needs of her family and those around her.  Nancy spent years compiling genealogical records and documenting the lives of her family members, impressing upon her children the importance of knowing their ancestry and passing that knowledge along to their own children.  Nancy cherished and valued true friendship, always welcoming lifelong friends and new acquaintances alike.

Nancy relocated to Laurel, Maryland in 2009 to be near her eldest daughters and her first grandchildren.  She worked as a Health Records Specialist, most recently for the University of Maryland Medical System.  She loved her work and spoke highly of her colleagues.  She enjoyed her colleagues' personalities, hearing about their families, and spoke of them often.  Nancy planted life's seeds across two continents, but her roots ran deepest in Arlington, Texas, Colorado, and Laurel, Maryland.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Charles Hutchinson, her eight children, Michael Hutchinson (Colorado), Matt Hutchinson (Colorado), Dan and Bethany Hutchinson (Minnesota), Sam and Elaine Hutchinson (Arizona), Joey and Mariana Hutchinson (Nevada), Andy and Soraya Hutchinson (Florida), Amy and Brian Lang (Maryland), Cathy and Genc Lumi (Maryland), her eight grandchildren Norah, Emily, Miles, Liam, Benjamin, Nina, Finneas, and Hannah, and her four step-grandchildren Gaelen, Mia, Jaden, and Kylie.  She is also survived by her brother Scott Jones (Arizona) and step-sister Mary Catherine Florence (Texas).  Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Kathryn (Carpenter) Stout and step-father, Homer Stout (Texas), her father, Edward Jones (California), her brother, Travis Stout, (Texas), and her step-brother, Ronnie Stout (Texas).

Nancy Hutchinson, grandmother, mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend departed this life knowing that she was deeply loved and appreciated greatly for her relentless efforts to keep her family and friends close across ever-expanding distances.  Nancy lived her life in a manner that left her children and grandchildren with absolute certainty that they were loved unconditionally and never far from her thoughts, gifting wisdom and a sense of caring that ensures such bonds remain for generations to come.  Mom, you are never far from our thoughts.  We love you; we thank you; rest in peace.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on August 27, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 7200 Contee Road, in Laurel, Maryland.  A virtual memorial will be held in Beulah, Colorado concurrently.  All those who knew Nancy are welcome to attend.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to “The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research”. The Parkinson's foundation was significant to Nancy and her family beyond the research.  Details of how to contribute can be found at www.michaeljfox.org .
