Neil Doran

October 3, 1941 — April 11, 2022

Neil David Doran, 80, passed away in Columbia, MD on April 11, 2022.

Born 1941 in Hoboken, NJ, son of Ralph and Olga Doran, Neil lived in Jessup, MD and worked at Fort Meade both as a LT. Colonel in the US Army and as a civilian working for the Defense Information School.

Neil is survived by his wife Linda Doran, his daughter, Eileen Boone, son Bob Doran (Sandy Doran), grandchildren Natalie Boone, Matthew Doran and Greg Doran, as well as his two brothers, Christopher Doran and Paul Doran.

Neil was a graduate of St. Peter’s University, Jersey City, NJ. While in the US Army, Neil received many awards including the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal 2D AWD, Army Achievement Medal 1st OLC, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal.

Neil loved sailing. Whether he and Linda simply stayed at the dock or went on an overnight trip, he was always at his happiest when he was on his boat. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening and going on cruises. Neil and his wife were also the founding members of the Savage Blue Grass band that performed throughout Maryland.

A funeral mass will be held at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, 8402 Brock Bridge Rd, Laurel, MD 20724 on Monday, April 18, 2022 at 11:00 am.  Interment will take place immediately following at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, 1122 Sunrise Beach Rd, Crownsville, MD 21032.
