Noreta Ann (Mccorkle) Gwynn

Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Noreta Ann Gwynn (née Gibson) passed from this life on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at the age of 83. She was a wonderful woman who was always there when we needed her.

Noreta was born on March 20, 1939 in Mount Holly, North Carolina to the late Jathaniel and Mary Jo Gibson McCorkle. She completed her bachelor’s degree at Johnson C. Smith University, and pursued teaching in North Carolina and in Maryland. Noreta later earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from George Washington University. She took great pride in her school (Moton Elementary) and her students, and she shared her passion for learning with many children over 43 years in her profession.

Noreta married John H. Gwynn in 1967, and they made their home in Washington, DC, and later in Temple Hills, MD.

Noreta was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Cornerstone Baptist Church. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Noreta. She loved spending time with her family, and having something sweet in hand. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. Noreta will be sorely missed, but she will remain in our hearts always.

Among those Noreta leaves to mourn her are her son, John Gerald of West Hartford, CT; stepson, Kenneth of Charlotte, NC; three siblings; five grandchildren; and many family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings.

Funeral Service will take place at Cornerstone Baptist Church

on Saturday, August 20 at 11AM, with a one hour prior visitation.
