Norman Edward Giddings, a lifelong Laurel resident and beloved husband, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother-in-Law, Cousin, and Friend passed on peacefully at his home on the property he lived most of his life August 31, 2015 at the age of 78. He was born May 1, 1937 to the late Norman W. and Ruth Giddings.
Norman was a man of incredible strength and an extremely hard worker. He lost his eyesight in his 20's to Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), but never let it stop him from doing what he set his mind to. He and his wife, Janet raised 5 children and owned a family run trash removal service, Norman E. Giddings and Sons from 1955 until 1986. You could often see him around the house cutting grass, raking leaves, chopping firewood (by hand), working in the shop, and much more. He was also an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, blue grass music, horseracing, and farming in his early years.
He is survived by his wife Janet (Lishear) of over 60 years; their 5 children--William "Billy" and his wife Karen, Robert "Bobby" and his wife Vanessa, Richard "Dickie" and his wife Terry, Deborah "Debbie" and her husband Rod Pinion, and George; 9 of his 10 grandchildren--Niki, Christy, Casie, Westley, Kaitlyn and her husband Daniel, Jessica, Sarah, Emmalee, and Hannah; and 4 great-grandchildren--Keilana, Nohea, Charles, and William.
He was preceded in death by his parents Norman W. and Ruth Giddings, sister Charlotte Mills, and Granddaughter Lauren Giddings.
The Visitation will be held Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Chapel at DONALDSON FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, September 4, 2015 at EMMANUEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 10755 Scaggsville Road, Laurel, MD 20723.
