Oren G. Potter

On November 15, 2016 Oren G. Potter, passed away peacefully at his home in Laurel, beloved husband of 61 years to Evelyn Potter; devoted father of Linda Layfield and her husband Don, Bruce Potter and his wife Marta, Brian Potter and his wife Lisa; dear grandfather of Alison Kucera and her husband Kent, Melissa Murray and her husband Clint, Heather Potter, Jake Potter and Max Potter; and great grandfather of Kaitlyn, Adam and Ariana.

Oren was born in South Dakota in 1931 to Earl and Edith Potter.  He began a lifetime of service to his country by joining the U.S. Navy at age 17, and led a distinguished 42 year career with the National Security Agency.  Oren was an avid pilot and model airplane enthusiast.  He loved to travel and was a passionate fan of the Baltimore sports teams.  A 60 year resident of Laurel, Oren was active in the church and a member of the Laurel Senior Friendship Club and Post 60 of the American Legion.  Oren will be especially remembered for the love, kindness and playful spirit he shared with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 19 from 10:30 am until 11 am at which time a funeral service will be held. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.   Pastor Gerry Rickel officiating.
