Patricia Ann Zack

Patricia Ann (Constable) Zack, age 90, of Laurel, MD, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Morningside House of Laurel. Patricia was born on February 15, 1936 in Washington, DC, the eldest child of the late Marvin Eugene and Madeline (Holt) Constable. Upon graduation from St. Patrick’s Academy in 1954, she entered employment with the US government as a secretary. On New Year’s Eve of 1954, she married Bernard Francis Zack with whom she had five sons. After living in Washington DC, they moved to MD where she provided a daycare service for several years before joining Hecht’s Department Store as a sales associate until her retirement.

Following Bernard’s death in 1985, she married John William Hyre Jr. with whom she enjoyed traveling until his death in 1998. She was bestowed the name “Memaw” by her oldest grandchild, a name affectionately used by all her thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary of the Mills Catholic church and also attended Bible studies for several years with her sister Mary. Later in life, she joined the American Legion Post 60 and was a member of the Friday bingo crew with her good friend (and fellow grandmother) Shirley Jacquez, until illness mandated her move to Morningside. Her family always remained the primary focus of her life. She especially loved playing with the children and was known to diligently send greeting cards for most every occasion.

Along with her parents and spouses, Patricia was preceded in death by her sister Mary E. Constable and brother, George M. Constable. She is survived by her sons Robert Zack (Cindy) of Bedford, PA; David Zack (Carole) of Woodstock, GA; Darrell Zack (May), of Richmond Hill, GA; Kerry Zack (Lauree) of Orlando, FL, and Kirk Zack (Barbara) of Laurel, MD; nine granddaughters, four grandsons, four great-granddaughters, nine great-grandsons, and sister-in-law Chris Constable and family of Hagerstown, MD.

Visitation for Patricia will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. (313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD) with a funeral Mass to be held Friday, April 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s church (114 St. Mary's Place, Laurel, MD) .
