Pauline Gloria Nelson was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the Laurel Regional Hospital in Laurel, MD.
Pauline was born in Washington DC on February 27, 1925, the daughter of Paul Gray and Minnie Davis. She was raised in a loving home by her mother and step-father William Morse in Washington DC.
Pauline received her education from the District of Columbia public school system. Through her inspiration, love and strength, family members went on to achieve their dreams and become well respected, contributing members of society. She worked for the Social Security Administration as a legal clerk for 25 years before retiring in 1990. After residing in the District of Columbia for over 80 years, Pauline relocated to Clinton, MD. There, she enjoyed attending the Camp Springs Senior Center and the comradery of her friends.
Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, working crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and friends. Pauline was a kind, loving woman and mother to everyone she met. She was a person never too busy to lend an ear or provide caring counsel when needed.
She is survived by six children, Harold S. Nelson and wife Shelia Nelson of Stafford, VA; Patricia Nelson of Capitol Heights, MD; Gloria Cloteykine of Brentwood, MD; Barbara J. Pittman of Laurel, MD; Ret. MSG Darryl L. Morrow and wife Mary Young-Morrow of Tifton, Ga; and Andrea J. Morrow-Couch and husband David Couch of Clinton, MD; 13 grandchildren, Gloria P. Nelson-Johnson and husband Walter Johnson; Edward E. Burke; William R. Burke; Yolanda H. Nelson; Paul Nelson; Dax R. Nelson and wife Marie Nelson; Renee Palmer; Maya (nee Nelson) Gudamaralla and husband Chandrakanth Gudamaralla; Kenyatta Mackall; Desiree L. Lindsey; David A. Morrow; Bennie (Lee) Hillmon and Jeremiah Pittman; 28 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Pauline was preceded in death by Minnie Morse (mother, 1983), William T. Morse (step-father, 1991), Isiah W. Nelson (son, 1999), Vanessa McNair (daughter, 2012), Markia Y. Nelson (granddaughter, 2000) and longtime pet companion Midnight (2015).
Friends and family are invited to gather for wake services on Tuesday January 12, 2016 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. and funeral services at 11:00 a.m. both at First Rising of Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Harmony Memorial Park.
