Penelope (Penny) Waring was born in Malmesbury, England on Sept. 28, 1921. She passed away on September 6, 2013 from complications due to heart failure. She was living at Vantage House in Columbia, MD. Penny grew up on Long Island. In her 20's she worked in New York City as an assistant buyer for Best and Co. She was a loving wife and mother to Jack Waring and daughters, Roslyn and Andrea. Most of the family's years together were spent in Statesville, NC. Penny will be remembered for her many artistic talents - needlework, smocking, sewing, and painting. Recently she has enjoyed knitting, reading, and playing bridge.
Penny was married for 63 years to Andrew J. Waring (Jack), who passed away three years ago. She also was predeceased by a daughter, Andrea Waring Quinn. Penny is survived by her daughter Roslyn Norman and her husband Duane, three granddaughters and their husbands, Katie and Keto Gyekis, Jill and Dan Ruppe, and Diane Norman. She is also survived by two great-grandsons, Max and Winston Ruppe.
A small family service was held on Sunday afternoon, September 8. There will be an opportunity for friends to gather and remember Penny at a reception at Vantage House at 4:00 Sunday, September 15. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or to St. John's Episcopal Church in Ellicott City, MD. Donaldson Funeral Home has been handling the arrangements.
The family would like to express their appreciation for everyone at Vantage House, Penny's friends, and her very caring helpers. Also, all the folks at Howard County Hospital were wonderful.
