P. G. "Pete" Melbourne, III was born on June 1, 1929 in Laurel, Maryland. He passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on November 13, 2013 in Ocean City Maryland. He was 84 years old. He was the son of Percival G. Melbourne Jr. and Bernice Grady Melbourne. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Joyce Melbourne; Six children: Thomas Melbourne, Carter Melbourne, Andrea Melbourne and Jane Bailey, Kevin Hammersmith and Kyle Hammersmith; Ten grandchildren: Christina McCollum, Joseph DeRosa, Elizabeth Lloyd, Christopher Bailey, Trent, Trista, Ryan and Peyton Hammersmith, Brian and Justin Purvis; Three great grandchildren: Dominick DeRosa, Nathan McCollum and Ella Purvis.

Pete served on the City of Laurel City Council from 1958-1961 and as Laurel's Mayor from 1962-1964. He was a business leader and entrepreneur operating multiple businesses in the Laurel area where he lived and worked for 65 years. He was a Real Estate Broker for 45 years on Rt. 1, an Owner & Breeder of winning thoroughbred race horses, President of the Lions Club and President of the Laurel Chamber of Commerce.

A viewing will be held at Donaldson's Funeral Home at 313 Talbot Avenue, Laurel Maryland on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 pm. The funeral will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 am. Internment will immediately follow the service at Maryland National Cemetery in Laurel. Pastor Russ Spikes will officiate.
