Ray Allyn Oursler

June 3, 1945 — November 2, 2013

Ray Allyn Oursler died peacefully at home on November 2, 2013. He attended Florida State University on a full music scholarship, leaving to join the U.S. Army's elite Army Field Band as a trumpeter. He was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland but travelled extensively nationally and internationally with the band. He retired as Master Sergeant in 1997.

Ray was predeceased by his parents, Augustus and Ellen Oursler of Silver Spring, MD. He is survived by his wife, Kate Lynott Oursler, Laurel, Maryland; daughters Kirsten Oursler Gilmartin and husband PFC Matthew Gilmartin; and Lisa Oursler, Baltimore; brother Ken and wife Carole Oursler; sister Linda and husband Bob Jagla, Chicago, Illinois.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707 with a celebration of life to follow at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to support his two great passions, golf and music, to either First Tee, online at www.thefirsttee.org or the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Washington, D.C. online at www.ellingtonschool.org .
