Raymond Sharbaugh

February 12, 1931 — February 2, 2025

Raymond Charles Sharbaugh (93) of Laurel, MD passed away on February 2, 2025.

He was born in Altoona, PA on February 12, 1931, to Gerald C. and Rosella G. (nee Sutton) Sharbaugh. He was a member of St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church.

Ray served in the U.S. Army from 1949-1951 as a member of the U.S. Army Field Band.

Ray was a great entrepreneur and worked in the glass industry. In 1967, he acquired Chevy Chase Glass Co in Bethesda, MD and later expanded his business to include Laurel Glass & Mirror Co.in Laurel, MD. Together, with his wife of almost seventy years, the late Joanne I. Sharbaugh, they created an empire that would eventually employ a significant number of family members. Instilling integrity and hard work not only to his family, but to all those who worked for him. He retired at the age of 85 only to continue his lifelong passions of jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, reading and enjoying his ever-growing family.

An accomplished saxophonist, in his younger years, formed the Ray Sharbaugh Quartet before joining the Rockville Civic Concert Band where he played for 30 years.

Ray is survived by his brother, Ron and sister, Delores. He is also survived by his five children, Michael (Judy), Mary (Frank), Susan (Richard), Kevin and Beth (Alan). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher (Gosia), Noelle (Andy), Nicholas (Brenda), Frank (Joanna), Camille (Brandon), William (Thais), Victoria (Ben), Christina, Ryan (Laura), Stephen (Lauren) and Lauren (Matt). Ten surviving great grandchildren are Matthew, James, Frank, Carmine, Teresa, Julia, Liam, Athena, Calliope and Charlie. Ray (Grandpa Ray) will be missed dearly by all.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne, his parents, Gerald and Rosella, brother, Leonard, sister Marjorie and daughter in law, Bonnie.

Ray’s legacy lies in his family- taught to be strong, independent, an impeccable work ethic and full of integrity – he, along with Joanne, his partner in life, will most assuredly impress for generations to follow.
