Reese Arnold King was born on November 16, 1912, in Portland, Oregon and raised in Glyndon, Maryland. He graduated from Franklin High School in Reisterstown in 1929, and spent a year in 1930 at Dean Academy in Franklin, Massachusetts before leaving the academic world to assist his family by starting a life-long career in clothing sales.
He served in the European theater from 1942-46 including time with the 94th Bombardment Group, an Eighth Air Force B-17 Flying Fortress unit, where he flew 23 operational missions over continental Europe. He was an Airman Staff Sergeant and served as an Aerial Engineer Gunner in combat missions. In 1948 he re-enlisted to take part in the Berlin Airlift, leaving the service in 1951.
He was a highly regarded clothing salesman in a number of leading men's clothing stores in Washington, D.C., including Lewis & Thomas Saltz Inc., Raleigh's, Goldheims, and Louie's. He retired at the age of 81 after many decades with Jos. A. Bank Co. in downtown Washington.
He was the loving husband of Patricia Ennis King of Washington, D.C., who died in 2002, and the beloved father of Sean King, Kimberly King and Christopher King all residing in Maryland and Tara Hamilton of Washington, D.C. His friends and family will greatly miss his humor, spirit and love.
