Richard Branch Haywood, 85, passed away on January 30, 2024; beloved husband of Shirley Haywood; devoted father of Penny Burke (Jerry) and Danielle Huber (Thomas); proud grandfather to Michael Burke, Joseph Burke, Elisabeth Eastridge, Nicholas Huber, and Samuel Huber.
Born September 25, 1938, in Cumberland, MD, son of Gerald B. Haywood and Margaret Mary (McGreevy) Haywood. He grew up in Westernport, MD, where he met the love of his life, Shirley, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. They moved to Laurel, MD where he worked at Westvaco as a Lab Technician for 43 years before retiring in 2001.
Richard graduated from Potomac State College in 1958. He served in the United States Army from 1963-1965.
He loved spending time with family and friends and playing in tennis leagues. He had a passion for photography. He was never without his camera and always enjoyed taking pictures at family events and holidays. He and his wife traveled often and had the pleasure of visiting 21 countries over the years.
Richard is survived by his wife Shirley (Salesky) Haywood and his two daughters, Penny and Danielle, as well as his five grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father and his brother David Haywood.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on February 26, 2024, at St. Mary of the Mills Church, 114 St. Mary's Place, Laurel, MD 20707.
