Richard Alexander Silbermann, a longtime resident of Laurel, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Howard County General Hospital. He was 80. He was born on October 18, 1936 in Pennsylvania to the late Emil and Frances Silbermann. He graduated from Pratt Institute in New York City receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering. He served in the U.S. Army. Richard worked for NSA and retired in 2000 and later worked as a private contractor. He loved to take on projects, big or small (at least 85% of the project). He was known as the “DIY Person”.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers Emil and Herb Silbermann. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Joan O. Silbermann; loving children Jim Silbermann and his wife Joanne, Jean Simmons and her husband Derek, and Andrea Apshago and her husband Bernie; cherished grandchildren Matt, Katie, Chloe, Alex, and Jordan. He is also survived by his siblings Louise Casertano and her husband Larry, George Silbermann, and Frank Silbermann and his wife Ann.
