Robert E. Allen, Sr.

May 29, 1939 — April 3, 2025

Robert Allen Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on April 3, 2025

Born May 29, 1939 in Washington, DC, son of Clifford and Helen Allen. He lived in various towns throughout Prince George's County and spent most of his career as a plumber at the University of Maryland College Park. Robert was a dedicated volunteer firefighter at the Branchville and Beltsville Firehouses and a proud retired member of the Army, having served as a combat engineer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Alice Allen, his son Robert Allen Jr. (Bobby), daughter-in-law Patti Allen, his grandchildren Kristy, Robert (Robby), and Bridget, as well as his great-grandchildren Antonio, Adrian, Remington, and Fiona. Robert was also the youngest of 9 children, with his only surviving brother Walter Allen.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Helen, and his siblings.

Robert’s life story was full of joy and service to his community. He married the love of his life, Alice, when they were just 17 and 19 years old. After their marriage, Robert was drafted into the Army, where he became known for his playful spirit, even getting into trouble for playing football with explosives. After his military service, he continued to serve the community as a volunteer firefighter. He also enjoyed dancing the twist, eating ice cream, playing solitaire and falling asleep at the firehouse, Bejeweled on his cell phone, keeping busy with yard work, and searching for 4-leaf clovers
