Robert Lee Bolton, Sr., 73, lifetime resident of Laurel, MD, passed away on January 13, 2015. Bobby, as he was known, was a career firefighter until his retirement in 1986. He was Laurel Volunteer Fire Department’s first paid firefighter. In his early years, he would run fire calls with his older brother Thomas. Eventually, the two worked together for the State of Maryland, Department of Forest and Parks, before finally settling into careers at different fire departments. Upon retirement, Bobby filled his days spending his time with his children or working on his farm raising horses. Later in retirement, he opened Country Corner Antiques and Old World Auction Company both in Laurel, MD. His passions were his family, friends, horses, and antiques. Anytime there was a yard sale, flea market or auction in the tristate area, you would probably find him striking a bargain. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He is survived by and is sorely missed by his family including: son Robert Jr., son William and wife Yvonne, son Anthony Bell and wife Kim, granddaughters Elizabeth Fieghenne and Samantha Bolton, great-grandson Caden Young, sister Peggy Bolton Jenkins, sister-in-law Gladys Bolton as well as nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Leola Bolton, brother Thomas Bolton of Laurel, MD, and brother-in-law Ellsworth Jenkins of Hagerstown, MD.
A celebration of life will be held at Donaldson’s Funeral Home February 8th at 1:00 with a memorial service at 3:00. A private burial will be held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in memory of Robert Lee Bolton, Sr. to Grace Community Church in Fulton, MD, or the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department.
