On the morning of July 10, 2015, Robert passed away peacefully of natural causes at Cherry Lane Nursing Center in Laurel, Maryland. He was born in Washington, D.C. on March 7, 1933 to Dorothy Elizabeth and Robert Grier, Sr. Bob was 82 years old. Because of his thick glasses, he coined the nickname “Batman”.
Earlier in his years, he couldn’t get enough of playing basketball. After graduating from Armstrong High School, Bob coached a number of teams then later became the Head Coach of Saint Anthony High School. Shortly thereafter, he became assistant coach to John Thompson at Georgetown University. Often you can hear Bob say, “You still can’t go to the left” to John Thompson then burst out with laughter.
Bob spent most of his life reaching out and helping others. He loved to give back to the Inner City kids and touched their lives. Because of his dedication, he helped people reach their potential by providing opportunities that would lead them to become successful in life.
