Robert "Bob" Johnson, 75, died April 22nd, 2026, at Adventist Health Care White Oak Medical Center, he fought a long battle with illnesses.
Born in Miami, Florida on October 31st, 1950, to Gordon Iver Johnson and Mildred Nancy Johnson (Lee). He graduated from Laurel High School class of 1969. Following graduation, he served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1972. Bob was a sheet metal mechanic and owned his own company, Arjay Sheetmetal, for many years. He also worked for construction companies helping to build many different styles of buildings where he managed and supervised sheet metal installations.
Bob and Mary were married in December 1986, had two daughters and eventually bought a house in West Laurel.
He was an avid fisherman, he enjoyed fishing for small mouth bass and competed in many tournaments where he was successful in winning or placing in some of those competitions. He loved fishing different areas of the Potomac River, other waters in Maryland and frequently the Rocky Gorge reservoir. Crabbing was also a favorite activity he enjoyed doing with his family. Bob respected natural resources and showed stewardship of how these resources should be treated. He also enjoyed going to the Laurel Racetrack. It wasn't just about placing a bet, it was knowing about the owners, trainer's, jockey's and a horse's breeding history. He kept well informed on any interest of his. He was one of those people, if you had questions about something he was usually able to answer most of them.
Bob is survived by his wife Mary Childers, daughters Kathryn Hait (Johnson) Elizabeth Johnson and John Sims a nephew he raised as a son. He loved his granddaughter Mary Hait, sister Sharon Howard (Johnson) brother-in-law Robert Howard, sister-in-law Nancy Rust, brother-in-law Danny Childers and many nieces, nephews and friends.
