Robert H. Merson, Jr.

Robert Henry Merson, Jr. 91, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, May 6, 2023. He was the son of Robert Henry Merson, Sr. and Ethel Elizabeth Geiger. He grew up in Mount Rainier, Maryland and graduated from McKinley Tech High School. He went on to earn his B.S. from the University of Maryland, College Park. In 1954 he married Mary Frances Simm, and they had five daughters. Bob was an accountant, and spent the first years  of his career at Sears and Roebuck, in Long Island, NY. In 1976 he moved his family back to Maryland when he took a job with the Federal Government. He worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and then the Department of Commerce for the next thirty years until he retired.  After retirement, Bob and Fran traveled extensively and enjoyed participating in local activities from their condo in Laurel, Maryland. Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Merson. He is survived by his  five daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen Regan, of Holtsville, NY, Lynn and Mike Kmiotek, of Farmingville, NY, Sharon O’Neill, of Laurel, Maryland, Diane and Max Peterson, of Fulton, Maryland, and Nancy and Shane McCarthy, of Severn, Maryland, along with fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, 12:00 noon, at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, Laurel, Maryland. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 2:00 - 4:00 pm, and 6:00-8:00 pm, at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., Laurel, Maryland. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
