Robert Willard Rogers

January 10, 1945 — September 20, 2018

Robert Willard Rogers, 73, of Laurel, MD passed away September 20, 2018 after a valiant struggle with cancer.  He was born in Washington, D.C. in 1945 to Grace Marie Willard and Philip Newell Rogers, who preceded him in death.  He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lynne B. Rogers; sisters Ann Marie Smeak of Woodstock, VA, Patricia Rogers Menhennick of Berkeley Springs, WV; sister-in-law Karen Lee Carroll of New Windsor, MD; niece Katherine Marie Gossman; nephews James Ellis Menhennick, Thomas Francis Carroll, JR., James Charles Carroll and his wife, Mary Christine.  He is also survived by his great nephew Curtis James Carroll, and great niece Chloe Grace Carroll.  Robert graduated from Coolidge High School in Washington, D.C. in 1963.  He then attended P.G. Community College where he earned an Associate Degree in business.  He also attended the University of Virginia.  Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1971.  He then worked for Verizon which he retired from after 30 years; worked at NIH for 2 years, then worked for the U.S. Navy at NSA for 11 years.  Robert enjoyed collecting model trains and gardening; his greatest passion was his beach house at the Outer Banks which he enjoyed for many years.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23 at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD from 2-4 and 6-8.  A committal service will take place at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Gilchrist Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

And to his many friends and neighbors, his family expresses their gratitude for the love and support they received during Bob’s illness.
