Ruth Rector Fettkether (nee Gilgen) died peacefully on February 22, 2013 following nearly 100 years of kindness to others. She will be missed. Born June 24, 1913 in Melbourne, Iowa, Ruth moved to Laurel, Maryland in 1935. She is predeceased by her first husband, Robert Rector, as well as her second husband Lynn Fettkether. Ruth worked her entire career at the Citizens Bank on Main Street in Laurel. She enjoyed cooking, travel, gardening and her extended family. Mostly, she enjoyed the company of her many friends.
Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Laurel, as well as a member of the Laurel Senior Friendship Club. She was also a active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by a sister, Jeanne E. Bernard, and a brother, William A. Gilgen, both of Iowa. She is further survived by numerous Byerly, Fettkether, Gilgen and Rector Descendents, all of whom remember her fondly. She will be missed by her fellow residents of The Avondale Apartments, where she made her home for the past two decades, and will be remembered fondly as "Miss Ruth". Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, February 25th with a funeral service on Tuesday, February 26th at 11 a.m. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel. A private interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Burtonsville.
