Ruth Elizabeth Gavigan

Ruth Elizabeth Gavigan, 99, a lifelong resident of Laurel, passed away on April 14, 2014 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia. She was born March 26, 1915 to the late William Harris and Ida Rebecca Whitehead. She was born and raised on Eleventh Street in Laurel before moving to the Howard County. She lived for her family, especially her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years Walter Vernon Gavigan, Sr.; son Walter Vernon Gavigan, Jr.; sister Dorothy Mae Whitehead Grimes; and brother Wilbur Elmer Whitehead. She is survived by her devoted children William H. Gavigan, Sr., Norman Clinton Gavigan, and Martha Rebecca Webster; 9 loving grandchildren Robert, Richard, Brian, David, Anna, Willie, Mary Elizabeth, Jean, and Larry; 23 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
