Sharon D. Welton

Sharon Decker Welton, 75, of Laurel passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of January 23, 2026. She was born on October 11, 1950 in Washington, D.C. to the late Thomas T. Decker and Naonal Billie Decker. The oldest of 3 children, Sharon grew up in Hyattsville, MD and was a majorette at Northwestern High School, graduating in 1968. She worked at Heileman Brewing Company in Baltimore, and later as an administrator at the University of Maryland before retiring in 2017. Sharon loved to cross stitch and crochet, and made many keepsakes for her family and friends throughout the years. She enjoyed picking crabs, loved a good cheeseburger on the grill and ice cream was one of her favorite desserts. No one will ever be able to replicate her lasagna or chocolate pie.

Sharon is survived by her husband of 50 years, David W. Welton, daughter, Molly Welton (John M. Papp), brother, Thomas “Ted” Decker (Patricia), sister, Bettie Sue “Susie” Decker, many loving nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Snoopy.

Family and friends will come together for a visitation  at 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 29 at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. in Laurel. Burial will follow immediately at Union Cemetery in Burtonsville.

The family requests donations to be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
