Life’s Reflection
Shirley Ann Nelson was born Jan 1, 1948 in Shelby County Tennessee to the late Joe and Zola Nelson, Sr. She departed this life with grace and peace on August 4, 2026.
She married her first husband, Marvin Collier Sr., and from their union had four children, Rhonda, Marvin, Robert and Mia Collier. She later married David Harvey (deceased) and together they had Jon-David and Craig Harvey. John Poole, her surviving husband, completed the family and helped raise her younger boys. Jennifer Grundy was Shirely’s step-daughter.
Shirley’s innate sense of style reflected the bright light in her spirit. She had a lifelong “passion for fashion,” and was never without her signature red lipstick. She was known for her kindness in action, her love of music, dance, dessert, and sharing new/old experiences with her family.
She cherished her extensive collection of photographs, vinyl records/albums, crafts, cards, and letters, preserving decades of family memories which will be cherished forever.
Her love of gospel music grounded her faith and infused joy. Her hallmark was waking the house to worship music on many Saturdays, and holding church in her home office on Sundays. Her sweet voice rang out to those gospel tunes in every room in the house, and will echo in our hearts for the rest of our lives.
Most of all, she is remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family. She often professed that some of her greatest moments of profound happiness/ joy were found in time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. She happily and faithfully poured into them that unrelenting joy with a sincereness that touched their hearts.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, John Poole; her sisters, Phyllis (Archie), Wanda and Dora Alice Nelson, and Earline Powell; her brothers, Larry (Jennetta) and Darell Nelson; her sons, Marvin (Dixieda) Collier, Jr., Robert (Millicent) Collier, Jon-David (Dawn) Harvey, and Craig Harvey; her daughters, Rhonda Collier and Mia (Sean) Conway, Jennifer (John) Grundy; her grandchildren, Keithan Samuels, Jane’ (Josh) Collier-Oh, Gabriella (Michael) Conway-Foley, Carissa (Daniel) Collier-Garcia, Chase Conway, Giovani Collier, Zackary Collier, Robert Collier, Jr. and Corey Collier, Ameliyah Harvey, Olivia Harvey, Amadora Collier, Amiyah Harvey, Zendaya Collier and Amirah Harvey, John Grundy, Luke Grundy, and her great-grandchildren; Mialma Collier, Jeremiah Garcia, Elion Oh, Ezekiel Garcia and Ada-Hope Garcia, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Nelson, Sr. and Zola Nelson; her brothers, Frederick Nelson, Joe Nelson, Jr. and Ronnie Nelson; and her sisters, Patricia Wheeler and Dorothy Clark.
All of whom gave her love, support, and comfort during her life.
Her light will forever shine on us and in us.
