Shirley Mae Hofmann, age 85 of Laurel, Maryland, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012. Mrs. Hofmann was a homemaker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Hofmann was born October 11, 1926, in Olney, Maryland, to the late Earl Brown and Reba (Phelps) Brown Renn. She is survived by her children, Harry Robert Hofmann, Nena Hofmann Miller (Richard), Gina Marie Klatte (Dennis), and Cindy Lou Zack (Robert); and grandchildren, Harry Robert Hofmann, II, Devon R. Vanecek, Eric D. Miller, Amanda C. Matthews, Elise M. Cruz Aragon, Leah (Fay) Klatte, Nicole L. Hagermann, Lindsay M. Zack, Ian R. Zack, Melanie A. Zack, ten great-grandchildren, and sisters, Lucille Tucker and Rose Whitehead.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, John C. Hofmann, Jr., stepfather, Melvin Renn, sister, Dolores Knox, and brother, Bernard Brown.
In her early years, Mrs. Hofmann was a devoted loving wife and partner to her husband, John, in his contracting business. She took great joy in raising her children, leaving them with many wonderful memories of beach trips, picnics, camping, parades and carnivals. In her later years, Mrs. Hofmann was often seen frequenting Denny's or I-Hop for breakfast, then walking the Laurel Mall with her late husband, John.
She deeply loved her home of 51 years where she hosted many family dinners and holiday gatherings, raised her children and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She never missed taking a photograph of her home with the first snow of the year. She is and will be sorely missed by all her family and many friends who loved her.
Relatives and friends may call at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD on Friday, July 6, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., where services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
