Shirley Elaine Lanning
February 12, 1938 — November 6, 2017
Shirley Elaine Lanning, a lifelong resident of Laurel, passed away at the age of 79 on November 6, 2017, in the comfort of her home. She was born on February 12, 1938 to the late William and Lillian Henson in Maryland. She attended Laurel High School and afterward was dedicated to raising her family. As well as having a passion for her family, she was an avid bowler for over 40 years and belonged to several leagues that played through the week.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Eddie Lanning, Jr. and 8 siblings. She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years Al Lanning; loving daughter Stacy Whewell; cherished grandchildren Nicole, Kristin, and Keith, Jr.; and 4 great-grandchildren. The family would also like to recognize Eric, who is loved as a grandson, for his help in taking care of Shirley.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 2 pm at DONALDSON FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707. Memorial donations may be made online to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
